I just saw — and loved! — the 2021 Icelandic movie set in current times that hinges on a very strange fable-like twist.
I won’t recommend the movie, however, to anyone but people like me who love films with little dialogue, isolated locations, dramatic/moody shots and when the time comes, a bizarre plot twist. As in shove you off of your chair wild.
If you decide to see it, consider watching it without looking up anything beforehand.
I can’t resist movies where everything looks humdrum. From there the tension builds from the basic question of what will happen to blow up that mendacity.
As a writer, I loved this movie! Every moment and word leads toward a basic, but powerful, story. Though I will say, my idea for an ending would have been a lot more satisfying.
Did you see the movie? What did you think?
If you’re curious, here’s a Los Angeles Times article.
