Literature That Transports Readers

When I first began writing THE WIND THIEF, I didn’t have the means or time to visit Morocco, where much of the story about Madina and Ajay takes place.

All I knew was that the research and writing allowed me to disappear to ELSEWHERE. I’ve always loved odd, beautiful literature that can transport me to where I’ve never been, as this story does.

When I finally got to Morocco in 2023, the country unfolded before me, as fabulous, exotic, complex as I’d imagined.

What book has transported you to a land you’ve never visited?

Author Joylene Butler:“A tale of salvation, The Wind Thief is about yearning and survival. It's rich with metaphors in a language that is easy to escape into. Ajay sets out to save Madina and does just that. Madina sets out to save the world and ends up understanding more about life than most of us ever do.” — Author Joylene Nowell Butler
