When I heard about the latest ban of 13 books by Utah's public school system, I looked up the books taken off of the shelves, I couldn’t get over the all-femaleness of this move.
Holy cow, people! Books by strong women, about strong girls is a bad thing?
My parents reared my sisters and I to believe we have a right to control our own bodies and deserve the same opportunities as men. Yet here we are decades later still fighting a war on women.
Why are women such a target in our society and around the world? Why are the more truthful stories about girls growing into adulthood so taboo? Why do some women support this crusade to keep girls sheltered and hidden and out of reach of books that might help them learn how to navigate life better and give them heroes to root for and identify with?
Can somebody please explain? I'll be happy to listen.
