Help a Worthy Independent Bookstore!

There was nothing quite like walking into a Books Inc. bookstore years ago to see my very first book, GROWING GREAT CHARACTERS,, on the bookshelf. What a crazy, wonderful feeling! The store even allowed me to teach a writing class based on the book.

I don’t have any photos of from that event, but since then have had the good fortune to have a number of book readings (BLISS ROAD, WINTER LIGHT) at three of the 10 San Francisco Bay Area stores owned by the independent company.

So when Robin Stern at the Campbell store recently emailed authors like myself, asking for help, the answer was, “Yes!”

The company entered into Chapter 11 with the goal of reorganizing and building a more sustainable future.

As Robin said, “The good news is that we’re not giving up. We have every intention of coming out of Chapter 11 a stronger, even more vibrant bookstore company.”

She asked us to pass on the ways people can help:

1 If you live in the Bay Area, shop at the stores.

2 If you don’t live in the area, order online via booksinc.net.

3. Wherever you live, purchase gift cards for loved ones. They can be shipped anywhere and used in-person or online.

We love you, Books Inc.!
