Earth Day: what does it mean to you?

I love the earth. I love the mountains where I bike and hike, and the ocean where I surf, and the trees that shade me on my patio and the rainstorms that provide my drinking water and help my flowers grow.

What pains me greatly is how, at least here in America, taking care of the earth has become politicized. Some people don't believe climate change is a real phenomenon. If they do, some argue that climate change is not caused by humans. Still others feel regulations regarding air quality, mining, pollution and other obstacles in caring for the earth compete with jobs and should be limited.

I believe everyone has legitimate concerns regarding how we should care for the earth. But I also believe that if we work together, we'll find common ground that balances the needs of humanity with the needs of the earth.

So that's my wish for this Earth Day: that all of us humans work together with the common focus of making our home as beautiful and clean as possible.

How will you enjoy nature today?
